Assistant Professor of Finance

Beginning August 2024

POSITION SUMMARY. The Francis J. Noonan School of Business, Engineering, and Innovation at Loras College invites applicants for a new, full-time, tenure-track position in Finance available August 2024. This position might also be filled on a Visiting basis for 2024-25 with potential for reappointment or conversion to tenure-track. The Finance major at Loras is recognized by the CFA Institute as a University Affiliate Program. Additionally, a minor in Financial Planning and Wealth Management meets the educational requirements of the CFP Board. Combined with the CPA prep curriculum of the Accounting major, this makes Loras the rare small, private college providing all three opportunities to students.

The precise courses taught will depend on the candidate's areas of expertise and the needs of the Finance major and Financial Planning minor, along with overall college needs. The ability and interest to contribute to other business areas, particularly Accounting or Analytics, is an asset. Potential courses in finance include Managerial Finance, Intermediate Financial Management, Investments, Portfolio Management (Student Managed Fund), Financial Markets and Institutions, Financial Ethics, and Personal Finance, along with courses in the Financial Planning minor and potential contributions to the College's General Education Program. Development of new Finance major electives in line with the candidate's expertise is welcomed. The successful candidate will be an individual committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE. A minimum of an M.B.A. or Master's degree in Finance/Financial Economics or related field from an accredited institution is required. Doctorate in Finance/Financial Economics or related field preferred for the tenure-track position. College-level teaching experience preferred. Professional designation (CFA/CFP) and/or industry experience desirable. The flexibility and interest to potentially teach in other business areas, particularly Accounting or Analytics, is preferred.

COMPENSATION. Commensurate with qualifications, education, and experience. NOONAN SCHOOL OF BUSINESS, ENGINEERING, AND INNOVATION. Named after a long-serving Faculty member, the Noonan school consists of 30 full-time faculty members and offers robust and rigorous majors in Accounting, Business Administration, Business Analytics, Finance, Marketing, Sport Management, Creative Media, Public Relations, Computer Science, Data Science, Math, Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. A master's-level program is Applied Analytics is also offered.

THE COLLEGE. Founded in 1839, Loras College is a Catholic, primarily undergraduate, liberal arts institution that includes pre-professional and career preparation programs, as well as several graduate programs. THE COMMUNITY. Loras College's 60-acre campus is located on one of Dubuque's highest bluffs, overlooking the Mississippi River at the junction of the states of Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin, about 3 hours west of Chicago. Dubuque's population is approximately 60,000 and its nineteenth-century architecture is woven into limestone bluffs and provides a picturesque backdrop to the river landscape. Many residential and commercial areas have been designated as historical districts to preserve Dubuque's unique heritage. Its strong education base supports numerous cultural activities, and in addition, there are sporting events, shopping facilities, schools, and churches that are convenient to its residents. The climate has marked seasons with a comfortable summer, cool spring and fall, and a winter that encourages a variety of sports that have in recent years attracted a growing tourism industry.
